Hamid practices Traditional Thai Massage in the Northern Style as taught by living master and teacher Ajahn Pichest Boonthume. Sessions are offered in studio or at-home. Thai Massage, also called Thai Yoga Massage, is an ancient healing system combining pressure points work, movement of energy along energy lines (called Sen), Indian Ayurvedic principles, and assisted yoga-like postures.

History of Thai Massage
The founding father of Thai Medicine was an Ayurvedic doctor named Jivaka Kumar Bhacca, who is still revered in Thailand as the “father of medicine”. Born in India during the time of the Buddha, he is noted in ancient documents for his extraordinary medical skills, his knowledge of herbal medicine, and for having treated important people of his day, including the Buddha himself.

What Happens During a Thai Massage
Traditional Thai massage uses no oils or lotions, though balms and salves are sometimes applied to select areas to stimulate blood flow and warmth. The recipient remains clothed during a tratment. There is constant body contact between the giver and receiver, but rather than rubbing on skin, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked. Thai massage is performed on a thin mattress on the floor, rather than on a massage table. The massage generally follows the “sen” (energy lines) with a great deal of attention paid to the feet and legs first before moving on to other areas of the body. A full Thai massage session typically lasts two hours or more, but can be shortened and includes rhythmic pressing and stretching of the entire body. This may include pulling fingers, toes, ears, cracking knuckles, walking on the recipient’s back (in certain instances), and moving the recipient’s body into many different positions.
